Caravan and Motorhome Tyres

Preparing your caravan or motorhome for a long trip is essential for both safety and enjoyment. Imagine planning your holiday in detail, only to end up stuck on the roadside for hours because of a tyre failure. Replacing caravan tyres doesn’t need to be stressful. Instead of towing your vehicle to a garage, you can take advantage of mobile tyre fitting services. With appointments available throughout the week in many areas, trained technicians can come directly to your home or storage site to fit new tyres. A wide selection of affordable caravan tyres is available, and with the added benefit of doorstep fitting, thousands of caravan owners each year enjoy safe and hassle-free tyre replacement without leaving home.

What is a Reinforced Tyre?

Every vehicle puts a different level of pressure on its tyres. For instance, a small hatchback places far less stress on its tyres than a work van loaded with tools or cargo. To safely handle this extra weight, reinforced tyres are designed with a tougher build, including additional beading made of heat-resistant fibres that help the tyre stay stable under strain. You can identify reinforced tyres by the markings on the tyre sidewall, often shown as XL or Reinf. In some cases, they may appear as EL or RFD. Be careful not to confuse these with RF, which usually refers to run-flat tyres.

Tyron Bands

Tyron safety bands are a practical solution to reduce the risks caused by punctures, blowouts, or under-inflated tyres. These bands are fitted inside the wheel when new tyres are installed, giving a short run-flat capability. This allows you to continue driving to a safe location without the tyre detaching from the rim. By holding the tyre beads firmly in place, Tyron bands also protect the wheel from hitting the road surface, preventing further costly damage. Since not all tyre providers handle Tyron bands, it’s important to choose technicians who are trained and fully equipped to install, remove, or replace them. Mobile fitting specialists can even supply and retro-fit new Tyron bands to your caravan if required.

Caravan Tyre Ageing

Tyres naturally degrade over time, even if they have never been used. Environmental factors and the breakdown of rubber compounds begin from the day a tyre is manufactured. For caravans, it is widely recommended to replace tyres once they reach five years of age, regardless of mileage. You can check a tyre’s manufacture date by looking for the stamped date code on the sidewall. However, it’s not always clear how long the tyre has been fitted to your caravan. As a rule, if you are unsure about the tyre’s age or condition, it’s safest to replace it before your journey.

Motorhome Tyres

Motorhome tyres are specifically engineered for recreational vehicles (RVs) and campers. Unlike standard car tyres, they are designed to support much heavier loads due to the size of the vehicle and its additional equipment. This strength comes from reinforced sidewalls, making them more durable and resistant to wear. In some cases, van tyres can also be fitted to motorhomes, provided they have the correct load index to handle the extra weight. Depending on the size of your vehicle, fitting may be possible at larger service centres. Check your local centre for "Large Vehicle" facilities. Alternatively, mobile tyre fitting teams are available to visit your home or storage site, offering convenience and peace of mind.
